The Big Wedding Day!

Its that time a year we all dread… wedding season! We’ve all been receiving those invitations in the mail saying “save the date!”. This is a great time to begin shopping for your wedding attire! Being the single friend out of the group I tend to despise opening wedding invitations. I normally take this time to find unique pieces to wear. Dressing for a friends wedding can be challenging but its always a blast. Being the best dressed but not take away from the wedding party is always the tricky part. Also, trying not to wear the exact same colors as the wedding party (or white) can be a headache. You don't want to be grabbed by the photographer when its time to take group photos wearing the colors of the wedding party.

Here are Black|Giraffes top 3 Do’s & Don’ts for wedding attire:

#1. Don’t -  BLACK & WHITE
Normally we would encourage using black in your garment but for weddings this is not definitely a huge no-no. Black can imply death for many people and showing up at a wedding in black can make you seem like the party pooper. In a traditional wedding the bride is the only one that can wear white. Let the bride have her big day and shine bright with her white wedding dress.

#2. Don’t - JEANS & T-SHIRT
Weddings are typically a causal event but showing up to the brides big day with this can ruined the ambience. No matter how expensive your jeans maybe don’t bother showing up to a wedding with picnic attire.

#3. Don’t - SKIMPY & SKIN
Nothing yells “look at me” like a skimpy outfit. We understand you’ve been working-out all summer for the body of your dreams but theres is an appropriate time for this kind of outfit (the club). Nothing wrong with showing a little skin but showing too much can draw away from the bride.

#1 DO - COLORS
Bright colors are great to wear to a wedding colors bring enjoy and happiness. Avoid colors that resemble or coordinate with the wedding colors. A wedding is a great chance to try some awesome color blocking.

#2 DO - PRINTS
Being at a wedding doesn’t mean lose the print. Prints can make or break an outfit so choose wisely when selecting a print for a wedding. Acceptable wedding prints are floral, stripes, and abstract. Pairing prints with some of your basics items is a great way to stand out without having take a lot of risk.

#3 DO - COMFORT
Weddings are great to show off your casual wear with a twist. Consider breezy attire for women and a silk shirt and khakis for men. Weddings are meant to be a great time to celebrate the joining of two great individuals.
